Help
a Child
to Appreciate the Chesapeake Bay
By
contributing to the Society for Ocean Sciences LEAP Fund (Learning
Environmental Appreciation Program) you will make it possible for
children and young adults in need to participate in local field trips
to the Chesapeake
Bay.
Environmental
stewardship begins with caring for
the natural world
that can only be gained through first-hand experiences in the
out-of-doors. The Chesapeake Bay is a tremendous environmental resource
but is currently in trouble, largely because of the human activities in
its watershed. How can we expect our youth to care for the Bay if they
have never personally known it or experienced it? In the current
economy, many families struggle to provide their children with the
necessary outdoor experiences to begin a life-long relationship with
the Chesapeake Bay.
Through the
LEAP Fund, the Society provides opportunities to spark the interest of
those who need it most.
