Outreach and Education Programs

Our team provides outdoor and indoor programs to groups interested in learning about ocean sciences. Whether you are a teacher or scout leader we can work with you to customize our programs to suit your needs.

Outdoor Programs

Sessions typically last ½ day or full day.

Taking You To The Ocean (Ages 10-adult)

We organize local field experiences where groups can learn about the Chesapeake Bay first-hand. Our team can organize a beach combing experience or an excursion onto the water.

Tides and Tidal Habitats (Ages 10-adult)

In this program groups will be taken to an area in the Chesapeake Bay and learn about tides and how they influence the intertidal zone. Participants will learn about the organisms adapted to this environment and apply hands-on techniques to sample the tidal flats.

Indoor Programs

Sessions typically last 1 - 2 hours.

Bringing You The Ocean (All ages)

One of the aims of SOS is to give hands-on experiences to people without access to marine environments. Our team provides mobile touch tanks and marine artifacts where children and adults can learn about marine organisms.  This program is available to all ages.

All Things Tiny (Ages 10-adult)

In this program we will provide participants with the opportunity to see and learn about the microscopic organisms of marine systems. They will view plants and animals under the microscope and learn about the importance of these minute creatures, so vital to the health of marine ecosystems.
