Our
Philosophy
The Society
for Ocean Sciences is dedicated
to increasing the awareness of students and the general public to all
aspects of ocean science. We achieve this goal by engaging people in
marine science and bringing to light issues specific to
the ocean realm. The Society emphasizes environmental problems
currently facing coastal marine habitats and fisheries.
The
cross-disciplinary nature of ocean
sciences encompasses aspects of physics, geology, chemistry, life
science and meteorology. This amalgamation of sciences captures young
people of all interests in scientific study.
We hope the
experiences
gained through our society will inspire our youth to begin careers in
science. We believe that there are four steps to becoming a steward of
ocean science. We believe that our approach to the study of ocean
science will create a strong society of people who love the oceans as
much as we do. Take your first step with us and explore
the wonders of the
oceans!
“Being
underwater was more exciting than I had ever imagined… I had
walked through some woods without seeing a single squirrel or badger,
but here wild animals came out to meet me.” Trevor Norton -
